brave pixie
Rose recently went from long hair to a bob - on Thursday she decided to go one step further and have her hair styled into a 'pixie' cut. I love this type of style- however I was a little hesitant, mainly because no other girl in kindergarten has very short hair- most have medium to long hair. I discussed this with Rose. How she would she feel being the only girl with this type of haircut? Rose assured me that she didn't mind and I felt that it was a very positive thing that she didn't feel the need to look the same as everyone else.
She had the haircut and off she went to school the next day, all excited (especially because she had some gel in her hair!) Charlie had a new style as well- a 'pixie' bob so she was quite happy to pose for a picture with her big sister.
I kept my fingers crossed that her joy in her new look wouldn't be crushed by the comments of the other kids. When I picked her up all was fine. Just about everyone had liked it - there were the few inevitable ' you look like a boy" comments which bothered her a bit. I reassured her that nobody could mistake her for a boy and told her that anybody who said that obviously had no idea of style.
Last thing I heard was Rose walking around practicing" you have no idea about style" delivered in a big confident voice with a toss of her fine little head!
They're utterly beautiful, the both of them. And obviously know loads about style!

They both look fab. The Pixie look rules!
Maybe you could make them each an Amy Karol style Pixie hat too?

I love her hair - she looks so cute! I am impressed that at her age she is happy to not follow the flock! I always had short hair as a child and still do (only ever grew it long twice but it didn't last!) as I used to have very fine hair - not it's so thick!
Tell her we all think it's great!!

You have a very matured girl because she doesn't care about what the others think, congratulations!

She looks adorable with short hair...I've had my hair short for years now, since about fifth grade, and I admire her for being different so young. It really suits her. And they are both beautiful!

I think your little Rose, ROCKS with her new Do!!! I grew up with 5 brothers and no sister's , so when I was little, er actually until I was in junior high, I demanded that my hair be short like my brother's(I had to fit in with them eh'). So, everytime my brother's got a haircut, so did I. Short and sweet. Now that I am almost 30 and have never had hair past my shoulders, I am trying to grow it out as long as I can stand it, we'll see how that goes:) Also, everytime I have given birth, I have shaved my head right after my babes were born...kind of a rebirth ritual for my hair and soul. So, I have been growing it for two years since my last birth and it is only just past my shoulders. I think Rose has the right spirit to wear her hair anyway she pleases...and look fabulous in it. Kuddo's to your response to her~could not have been explained better!:)

Awwww, such cute little pixies you have! Rose is much braver than I am. The shortest my hair has ever been was a bowl cut my mum forced on me in kindergarten. There's nothing stylish about a bowl cut. Rose is very fashion savvy for her age. I hope your paintings do(or did) well at the fair this weekend.

Your daughter is adorable! And tell her not to worry about the boy comments. When I was young ( a young Rose too! ), my mother kept my hair in a pixie cut. There is freedom when your hair is that short and as long as she likes it, nothing else matters.

Her adorable, short cut only draws more attention to her beautiful face! I love it!

You should be proud that you were able to instill such self confidence into Rose, this will serve her well even past the pixie cut days. Growing up is hard and I hope my girls will find some solace in being happy with who they are.

Two very pretty girls. Also, Rose? You don't look anything like a boy. You look very much like a girl and a pretty one to boot. So, just say "Oh pooh! You don't know what you're talking about" to those people (probably stinky boys or jealous girls!)

Your daughters are beautiful, isn't it great that your child is confident in what she wants and not affected by others comments? I love that she is practicing your quote too, sweet!
