a very merry unbirthday to you....
Rose finally had her big day and fun was had by all....
well, to be honest not all because this mama finally succumbed to the awful bug that has been plaguing our family. Whoever wrote that awful "soldier on
"ad obviously had never had to prepare for and host a party for 10 five year old girls ( plus two toddlers). I did not want to soldier on ....what I wanted to do most of all was to find a lovely dark quiet corner and curl up all alone and just be miserable!
Soldier on my #$!@##*!!
The night before I made about a zillion (it seemed) teensy weensy little cupcakes which then had to be iced. You might ask why on earth I did this especially with a killer headache and sore throat to match?
Punishment, of course.
This bad mother went to the supermarket to buy icecream with which to make the special super duper icecream birthday cake and instead came home with a ready made icecream cake ( I can hear the gasps of horror from here!)
Of course I had to ring Steph first and ask whether Rose would ever get over the fact that I had bought the cake instead of making it and in her opinion did it make me the laziest, worst mother in the world? Steph's reply "you sound awful and I can't believe you have to ring and ask - just buy the ready made cake and go home to bed! The kids won't know the difference or even care as long as its icecream!"
Of course she was right but the fact was that I would know the difference, hence the zillion teeny weeny cupcakes with chocolate icing and a tiny m&m placed just so right in the middle.....
Luckily most of the preparation had been done for the week before , so for the first time in five years of birthdays I went to bed before midnight!
The gods of party must have been on my side because it was a clear sunny day so it could all happen outside.Everyone turned up on time, had fun, ate party food and were punctually picked up two hours later. They went home happy with their party bags, the button box they had made and resident pet rock! Oh and they all loved the icecream cake especially Rose who said it was the best cake she'd ever had !
( sob, doesn't she remember the masterpiece fairy wonder I concocted last year? Now that was a cake!)
Rose went next door to play, my two wonderful friends Steph and Michele cleaned up, angel baby Charlie went to sleep( despite having consumed half a bowl of Maltesers when nobody was paying attention) and so did I!
Soldier on, indeed......
Just look at that awful icecream cake ( but happy Rose and that 's all that really counts!)
And just for good measure , below is last year's cake ( I was sooo proud of that cake)
And guess which one the kids ate most of ?
Ah well, you live, you learn ( but of course I'll knock myself out making Charlie's cake for her 2nd birthday this Sunday...)

You made me laugh - but not because youre feeling bad - youre funny!!!!!!!!
Hope youre feeling better and the party looks like it was fantastic - look at the beams on those girls faces :)

Congratulations on a fabulous party! We are all prepared for Lottie's tomorrow but the weather does not look promising. Oh well, at least I have discovered the joys of betty crocker frosting to ice all the teeny tiny cupcakes I am baking tonight. I just hope our party goes off half as well as your party for Miss Rose.

Oh no! You poor thing. I feel your anguish over the cake. Now one else will worry though, but I know you will. But what a beautiful sunny day. T-shirts! What are they? Take care Soldier!

You are a super woman Applehead - with no need to ever question your status as a fabulous mum. And sounds like your friends are special ladies too, lucky you.
Happy bday Rose!

what a lovely post. The girls look so happy and cheeky. the cakes look yummy. the icecream cake...it doesn't matter...but I must say the one from the year before looked so fantastic. Mothers are an amazing species, and only other mothers really appreciate what we do for our children. You deserve a medal.
