just had a visit to aunt cookie who has posted a picture of her mini moopy doll.....even though it hasn't turned out exactly the way she envisaged, it is really appealing in a lopsided imperfect way....it reminded me of an article in April "inside out" about the aesthetic concept of "wabi sabi"...a beauty of things imperfect, impermanent and incomplete....a beauty of things modest and humble..a beauty of things unconventional" . I think this concept pretty much sums up what I love about things made by hand...those tiny imperfections that give the piece its own uniqueness and quietly remind us that it was created by a person instead of a machine.
So books! one of my favourite topics in case you hadn't realised...
paper paper (ISBN 4-579-20947-8) is such an inspiring book for anyone interested in papercraft..loads of ideas and images for postcard swaps , tags, mobiles...really really worth a look at it if you can get it! I am currently putting together a swap for a lover of all things wool so I made these ( from the book) just for fun..I'm not sure how useful they are but, hey not everything needs to be useful and these were just so damn cute! Actually, some of the images would be great starting points for an embroidery....
here are my sheep..
Now this next book was one that I just had to have..there was no way I was leaving the store without it.. images of fabric designed by Yurio Seki (ISBN 4-89444-229-9 ) and then 24 ( or there abouts ) postcards of designs on lovely heavy card. Simply inspiring and no, I will probably never tear one out to send and will keep them all selfishly for my very own ! The cover itself is just so beautiful that I would have bought it for that alone.
For all of those button freaks out there, have look at this one... (ISBN 4-579-11063-3)
That's probably enough of my books for one blog- wouldn't want anyone to think that all I do is buy books ( even though that's probably pretty close to the truth -hey, I don't smoke , hardly drink, run whenever I can and cook lovingly for my family, so I think you should overlook this weakness. And remember, I'm sharing them so it can only be good.)
And I know that is un - Australian to complain about the rain , and my garden is loving it but please, please,I need just one sunny ( or at the least one non wet) afternoon before my head starts to spin around. Charlie is going stir crazy ( she an outdoor girl) and I am HI-5 ed out ( seriously, I can't believe that they didn't ask me to fill in for Kathleen whilst she on maternity leave...I know all the words and I do a pretty good job of the moves although I'm not as funky -disco- hip- swivelling as Nathan yet!)
On one of those rainy dreary bone chilling days a little package of cheer -me -up arrived from New York...
a beautiful pile of vintage trims and lace from Ann Wood she of the awe inspiring ships and horses. Take a look at the delicate little Victorian birds that are on her blog - I'm in such a bird phase at the moment and these are so appealing... thanks Ann - now I just have to stop playing with them and use them!

Its funny, if I knew how wonky the little painful moopy was to make I wouldnt have bothered ( I had to unpin the legs twice and really why bother they are like the size of a four year old thumb??) but now Im glad I did, the idea of wonky craft is growing on me, I shall claim it as my niche! And mini moopy is resting on my bedside table...mainly because if Lola gets it she'll choke on some spewing out stuffing...
Yes, and I too am over this rain anf fog and freezing'ness!!

Wow, what a cool stuff you have here! I'm interested in button jewelries above, I'm loving all of them. In the hands of a creative mind, simple materials can turn into a gem. :) I'm glad to have found it here in your lovely blog.

You did a great job with all those things but I think that the sheep is the best one.

Beautiful and cool stuff, and the best part is that it doesn't look that difficult to at all.
